About Xu
Shanghai
I did my PhD research in biomedical science at the University of Groningen and the Vrije Universiteit (VU) Amsterdam in the Netherlands. I obtained my PhD degree at the VU in May, 2019.
After my graduation, I worked at a multinational scientific publishing company in Amsterdam, and then at an international medical communications agency based in Shanghai. My working experience in these two industries, with my curiosity and passion in science communication guided me towards the career path of scientific writing. The same curiosity and passion motivate me to consistently improve my writing skill, and keep myself up-to-date on the latest news and discoveries in the healthcare field. This drives me to enhance my critical thinking in topics that I am writing about as well as a wide variety of things that I am curious about in life.
Outside of being a science writer, I am nerdy about photography, especially street photography; I like taking street photos with just my iPhone while I am traveling. I dedicate to cycling regularly, although I am not a fast cyclist; it is a Dutch print on me and part of me that will stay in my life. Since I am a fan of comedy, I am exploring English improv to express myself and be creative in another way; it is a journey full of surprises and fun!
About Writing · HealthCare · Collage
Writing · HealthCare · Collage is my blog portfolio where I publish interesting and insightful articles weekly for the general public. The articles are about recently published research papers with real-world data or data from clinical trials, and covering topics of preventing Alzheimer’s disease and healthy aging. With the blogs supported by papers I selected and analyzed, I hope to spread the words of preventing aging-related conditions and having a satisfied quality of life as we age. I am very much looking forward to enriching the contents in the two topics!
Writing · HealthCare · Collage is open to feedback from and dialogues with the general public and fellow science writers. I hope that this website can spark consistent and ongoing exchange of ideas between me and the audience.
